In pursuance of State resolution of Department of Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt. of Jharkhand has established a sports university to promote the state sports in association with CCL, Ranchi.
   
Sports Academy (One of its kind in the Country)

• The Hon’ble Minister of Coal and Railways Shri Piyush Goyal and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri Raghubar Das conceived the idea of establishing a Sports University and Sports Academy in the State of Jharkhand in 2015.

• Central Coalfields Ltd in partnership with State Govt of Jharkhand established the Sports Academy in the year 2016. In the first batch, 78 sports cadets were admitted from various Districts of Jharkhand. In the year 2016-17, 100 more Sports Cadets were added.

• During the current year 2017-18, selection for 222 Sports cadets is under process and selection program will be completed by Dec 2017. Thus the total strength will be 400 as on 01.04.2018 (boys & girls in the ratio of 50:50). Ultimately the strength will increase to 1400 by the year 2022, the 75^th year of Independence the Cadets are being trained to bring glory to the Nation in the form of Gold Medals in 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris.

• These children are being imparted formal education too in DAV School.

• About 97% of the academy sports cadets are Tribals and OBCs from remote villages of almost all 24 districts of Jharkhand.

• The cadets are provided free boarding, lodging, sports training, schooling etc in the sprawling campus at Khelgaon, Ranchi.aon, Ranchi.

• In addition, they are also given a stipend of Rs 500.00 per month so as to expose them to financial decision making

• The entire expenses are borne by CCL (A subsidiary of Coal India Ltd.) and Govt. of Jharkhand in the ratio of 50:50.

 

• Budget for the current Financial year 2017-18 is Rs. 22.64 Cr which includes the expenses for Students as well as maintenance and repairs of the campus. Expenses for boarding and lodging, Coaching, Schooling etc is about Rs.1.35 Lakhs per student per year.

 

• The Academy is presently managed by a Local Management Committee (LMC) of Officers from Central Coalfields Ltd (CIL). Coaches, have been selected from across the Country and are of International repute. They have led the Indian contingent in Olympics, Sr World Championship, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in their respective areas of specialisation. At present, Sports disciplines of Athletics, Archery, Football, Taekwondo and Wrestling are going on.

 

• Ten (10) additional disciplines viz. Judo, Hockey, Boxing, Weight Lifting, Shooting, Synchronised Diving, Swimming, Table Tennis, expansion of verticals in Athletics and Badminton are to be commissioned by Apr 2018.

   

 

 

Sports University

• To make these Sports Cadets self reliant, One Sports University is being established in the same campus. With an assortment of Graduate and Post Graduate courses, the bouquet of courses to be offered include Specialisation in Yoga, Physical Education, Sports Science etc.

• The proposed strength for the University is 5000 students from different states of India and abroad. The current Sports Academy will be one of the feeders to the Sports University.

• Out of the proposed strength of 5000, 700 students from the State of Jharkhand will be given subsidies in the form of fee, boarding and lodging expenses. Rest will have to pay the actual expenditure so as to make the University self sustainable




 

A Brief on JSSPS

The Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) is a unique unconventional CSR initiative of Central Coalfields Ltd which administers and operates the Mega Sports Complex, Khelgaon and Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Morabadi.

The Central Coalfields Ltd (A Public Sector Mini Ratna PSU) is presently running 5 Sports disciplines in Archery, Athletics, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Football and shall, from 01 May 2018 have 10 additional Sports disciplines of Olympic Sports at Grass-root level. Besides, a World Class Sports University is being commissioned for ensuring end-to-end Sports education programme at both graduate and post graduate levels in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

It is our firm belief that, Sports alone can be a catalyst to continuous sustainable development for a State. A natural resource rich State can be benefitted in totality only if its children are provided equal opportunity to stay fit and healthy and simultaneously focusing on multiple sports disciplines.

At JSSPS, we focus on overall development of the children and provide them with state of the art infrastructure, access to quality par excellence training and school education. Each of our ‘Sports Cadet’ is imbibed with true values of Patriotism, integrity, honesty and leading by example. The various facilities in our world class maintained indoor and outdoor stadiums and outreach to more than 5 Lakh beneficiaries across Jharkhand has made us a valued entity within a short span of time. We believe that, with a persistent and focused approach to scientifically evaluate and train the children, we shall achieve the coveted dream of Olympic Gold Medals.

The JSSPS is fully managed and controlled by a Local Management Committee comprising Executives and Staff with varied specialization from Central Coalfields Ltd who have come together to make the Olympic dream a reality. We strive to achieve utmost transparency and ethical work principles and stand out in maintaining the best work practices in the most ergonomic and fair manner. Our various facilities include separate hostels for boys and girls, cashless shop, injury management centre, wi-fi campus, indoor air-conditioned playing arenas, outdoor training facilities etc.
